Ever wondered how big of a difference 100 hp as well as meager 1.5 seconds difference looks like on a drag strip? Me and my buddy decided to give it a go. For the hell of it.
This was in August 2015 at iCar in Mirabel (My current favorite drag strip that’s within reasonable driving distance). My buddy brought his brand new 2015 Civic Si sedan for it’s first go. He had just finished installing a cold air intake, hence the noise.
For reference, and for those who have never read any of my posts, my car is a 2012 Mustang V6 (yeah yeah) manual with a tiny list of mostly insignificant mods. I have the optional 3.31 rear gearing, J&M rear lower control arms, Eibach sway bars, Airaid cold air intake, BAMA ECU reflash tune for 91 octane, Borla ATAKcatback exhaust kit and finally a Barton two-post shifter bracket. Again, nothing really significant performance wise.
Tire wise, He’s running the factory all season continentals and I have Michelin Pilot Super Sports because Matt Farrah’s shilling was hypnotic. And for extra spiciness, he’s driving my car and I’m driving his hahaha.
Spoiler alert: It wasn’t a fair race.
Enjoy and sound off in the comments!

Looks like a nice facility!
Side note, 1.5 seconds is significant in drag racing.

It definitely is nice! Smooth even pavement, inexpensive, music, well staffed and coordinated so everyone knows where to go and what to do. It’s a great place for rookies too. It definitely feels more upscale than other tracks I’ve seen. They also host a bunch of different types of racing and events.
As for your side note. I’m aware but many people think 1.5 second is nothing lol.

What’s the weight difference?

The Si is a hair under 2900lbs and the Mustang is about 3400lbs.

Nothing wrong with the V6, it gets great mpg and it still has 300 hp. Mid 6 second 0-60 for a stock car is pretty good.

Nice! Hey, at least your V6 is the previous, good looking model Mustang. I wouldn’t underestimate the gains from your CAI, exhaust and tune. I’m more familiar with the gains on the 5.0, but that would likely be 30HP to the wheels...so maybe 20 for the V6?
What time did your friend run in your Mustang?

More like low-5 0-60 stock! I do love it but many people still dismiss the V6. Shame.

He managed to get 14.1 I think. She’s tricky to launch. I struggle getting anything better than 13.9 even with the michelins because i absolutely suck at feathering the clutch at launch.

Also, thanks!

5.5 is correct. That’s what my v6 camaro gets as well.

Not bad, I was never able to do any better than low 13s (I think my best was 13.2 with a 2.1 60') in my 2011 5.0. The stock PZEROS were pretty awful tires.
